Dear Knitters,

As many of you know, Lynn and I do all of our Fall ordering in the Spring and while it's one of our favorite tasks, this year was a little different. The first of our five suppliers came to us and the mood was a little uneasy and more serious. As I watched the sweat on his brow, I became suspicious, and then he broke the news. Wool prices are going up... and not just a bit- quite a bit.

My first thought was 'greed' and I pictured this fellow looking like the banker on Monopoly, disappearing into the sunset in his Rolls Royce. However, we were given the same news by the next four of our largest suppliers. So there must be a reasonable explantion... Right?

So, while it makes me sad to think that we may lose some of you to less expensive hobbies, we also hope that you will continue to see the value. I started seriously collecting wool over 25 years ago and when I dip into my 'stash', I am amazed that the prices have remained so steady over the years. I guess it is time that we see an increase afterall. The good news here is that the wool/sheep farmers may finally be able to do better than 'break even'. We need those wool producers- big time!

One more little piece of good news here is that we were given warning and so we loaded up this year with some of our favorites at the old price which we are happy to pass along to you until we need to order more.

And remember- an evening of knitting is still cheaper than a night at the movies! Especially if you make a mistake and have to rip back.

Tweeds

 lang donegal

Tweeds have been a favourite at the shop since we opened, and we're happy to say that we've never had so many tweeds in stock!

Swing by the shop to check out our amazing selection of tweeds offered in a variety of weights. This classic look will never date and will make up a garment that you can pull out of your closet year after year.

Heron by Zealana is a worsted weight tweed, made in New Zealand that is 20% possum and 80% merino. That little bit of possum thrown into the mix makes this yarn so soft that anything you knit out of this will likely stay on your body until the snow melts next Spring. A beautiful range of colours is available in this yarn, and we've got them all.

Lang Donegal is a lighter weight tweed with amazing yardage that comes in some beautiful neutral shades as well as some richer tones for those that want some colour. This yarn has fabulous yardage and would make a gorgeous cardigan or shawl.

Naturally's Aran Tweed is a yarn we've had at the shop for atweed while now, but is quickly becoming an old favourite! Lynn knit a hat out of it last winter, and Mary has a vest hanging up in the shop that she knit for her husband (who has kindly lent it to us until the weahter starts to nip). Many of you have knit with it already and for those that haven't, get knitting!
