Dearest Knitters,
Every year on
boxing day, I flop on the couch first thing in the morning with a
strong cup of coffee. I then proceed to spend as much of that
day doing nothing other than... knit.
In years past I
have ploughed through an entire Noro Silk Garden scarf,
I've produced a sock or two, various hats and beanies... I find that my
body simply won't allow me to do anything other than knit on Boxing Day, more
so than any other day of the year.
This should come
as no surprise you that I love to knit and would (not to mention
'could') spend days at a time on the couch knitting. Boxing Day is
different however. It's different because I allow myself to knit
completely selfishly. I knit for me, and only me.
While I do get a
tremendous amount of pleasure from knitting for my loved ones, after
all of the Christmas last minute stitching, I urge you to try it. Turns
out that knitting for oneself is also rather satisfactory.
So in the midst
of all of your holiday chaos, be sure that you've got a fresh ball of
yarn and needles waiting patiently for you to cast on with on the 26th.
This year, I have a sweaters worth of yarn waiting for me (Ultra
Alpaca to knit Chic
Knits 'Vonica') and as I curse under my breath while in line
at the mall, I have fond daydreams of that sweater-to-be.
